Ashu Artists Retreat was a transformative experimental one-month creative retreat designed to foster international collaboration and artistic exchange in Kyrgyzstan. The retreat aimed to bridge the gap between local and international artists, encouraging sharing of ideas, techniques, and creative processes in a unique setting. By inviting visual artists worldwide to participate, AAR sought to stimulate new artistic directions and promote experimentation in an environment rich in natural beauty and cultural diversity.

During the retreat, artists had the opportunity to collaborate closely with local communities, which included engaging with children from the Kalmak Ashu village. The retreat provided a platform for artists to conduct masterclasses, allowing local children to explore their creativity while gaining exposure to contemporary art practices. These interactions between visiting artists and local children encouraged the development of cultural exchange, fostering a sense of shared learning and artistic exploration across generations.

A key aspect of the Ashu Artists Retreat was its focus on creating a space for experimentation, allowing artists to push the boundaries of their work while connecting with the local landscape and community. The retreat offered an artistic and cultural exchange, promoting a deeper understanding of Kyrgyzstan’s rich heritage while allowing international artists to gain new perspectives and insights into their practice.
